Charles Boone
Founder and President
B&W Security Agency, Inc.
Charles Boone founded B&W Security Agency, Inc. in 1980 upon his retirement from the Gary Police Department where he completed his service as Chief. Boone's training began during his tenure in the United States Navy, which set a course for concern of public safety. He soon joined the Gary Police Department as an Officer while training and studying at Purdue University, Michigan State University, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice, Chicago-Kent College of Law, and Howard University. His training and experience is extensive.
Boone rose through the ranks of the Gary Police Department and was named Chief of Police in 1970, making him the first Black Chief of Police of a major city. While serving as Chief, Boone spearheaded numerous innovative programs to address community safety issues, one of which was the Police Community Relations Program. In addition, he is a founding member of the National Association of Black Law Enforcement Executives. Boone has served on many boards, including the Gary Chamber of Commerce. He recently served as President of the Gary Police Foundation.
Among his many awards, Boone was named Minority Small Business Person of the Year in 1994 by the SBDC. Boone holds an A.S. in General Studies, a B.A. in Psychology, both from Calumet College, and is an Entrepreneurial Center graduate of Purdue University Calumet.
